Oh So Cozy
1-Day Workshop on Saturday, December 10, 2011
in Studio CRESCENDOh

Just in time for the holidays, you are invited for a very special all-day workshop where you will learn how to crochet an apple cozy, stitch a neck cozy, and embroider a cup cozy. Join Jenny Doh, Cynthia Shaffer, and Tracy Schultz who will offer patterns and instruction on how to create these adorable objects. At the end of the day, you'll walk away with three (or more!) gifts ... ready to be kept and treasured, or wrapped and given for the holidays.

LOCATION
Studio CRESCENDOh in the Artist Village of
Santa Ana, California

SCHEDULE

  • Arrive & Settle: 8:30 :: Time for students to arrive, settle in.
  • Class Segment A: 9:00-12:00 :: Class time with Jenny, Cynthia, and Tracy, who will demonstrate and guide the 1st part of class.
  • Lunch & Stroll: 12:00 PM :: You can choose to brown bag it or take a stroll to one of the many hip and artsy eateries in the historic Artist's Village in Santa Ana, like The Gypsy Den, or Lola Gaspar.
  • Class Segment B: 1:30-4:00 PM :: Class time with Jenny, Cynthia, and Tracy, who will guide the 2nd part of class.
  • Show & Tell, Clean-Up & Depart: 4:00-5:00 PM

WHAT TO EXPECT
For the Apple Cozy ::
Jenny will bring enough hemp yarn, needle, thread, and assorted buttons for all students to use. Please bring a crochet hook—size 9 (5.5 mm) or 10 (6 mm). If you have a special button or two that you want to use, please bring those as well. If you are a beginning crocheter, please review this basics video before coming to class. No need to stress out too much if crochet scares you. We'll get you crocheting in no time. Just come with your hook and an eagerness to learn.

For the Neck Cozy :: Cynthia will teach how to make either a no-sew version with knotted fringe or a longer mobius stitched version (aka, Infinity Scarf). Both versions will include instruction on how to create a rolled roses attachment. Please bring:

  • 2–3 t-shirts in coordinating colors. The bigger the better ... large men's tees from thrift stores are good options. Logos and words are also ok.
  • Straight pins
  • Fabric scissors
  • Tape measure

For the Cup Cozy :: Tracy will teach how to make either the stamped and embroidered Fly High cozy or the blanket edge stitched Love Cozy. Tracy will bring fabric scraps for you to use but if you have favorite scraps in your stash, please bring them to class. Tracy will also bring rubber stamps and inkpads, needles, thread, bird buttons, and other small embellishments to share. Please also bring:

  • Straight pins
  • Embroidery Floss
  • Fabric scissors
  • Tape measure

NOTES

  • We will have enough sewing machines on hand that students can use to do the light sewing portions for the neck and cup cozies. If you don't know how to sew, we'll do the sewing portion for you. No worries.
  • The instructors will have a limited number of project kits on hand for those interested in purchasing them.
  • The class will be divided into three small groups, allowing you to rotate through all three groups to make three different cozies. But if you prefer to stay in one group the whole day and make multiples of just one of the cozies, that's fine too. ;)
  • Due to limited class size, the spot for this class is transferable but payment is non-refundable. Please read about this policy in our Studio Policies.
