Collaged Backgrounds & Painted Girls

1-Day Workshop on Saturday, September 8, 2012

Ever wonder how a mixed media piece is constructed from start to finish?  Join me in this workshop where you will learn from the very basics to make a mixed media piece to the finishing options to give your piece a uniform look. We will explore different techniques for backgrounds, adding meaning to our paintings, translating our thoughts to canvas and adding beautiful characters. We will paint, draw, stencil, stamp, cut, paste and layer by layer we will have a lot of fun!


  • Arrive & Settle: 8:30 :: Time for students to arrive, settle in, and grab a cup of coffee.
  • Class Segment A: 9:00-12:00 :: Class time with Danita who will demonstrate and guide the 1st part of class.
  • Lunch & Stroll: 12:00 PM :: You can choose to brown bag it or take a stroll to one of the many hip and artsy eateries in the historic Artist's Village in Santa Ana, like The Gypsy Den, or Lola Gaspar.
  • Class Segment B: 1:30-4:00 PM :: Class time with Danita who will guide the 2nd part of class.
  • Show & Tell, Clean-Up & Depart: 4:00-5:00 PM

STUDIO CRESCENDOh will provide access to the following items for students to use during class. These items are used by Danita to create her works so eventually, students may want to buy their own. However, if you'd like to try these out before you buy them, the studio will make these available for you to try during the class.

  • Crackle medium
  • Assorted acrylic paints, plus colors recommended by Danita: white, black, red, and raw sienna
  • Paint thinner
  • Paper towels
  • Oil-in Burnt Umber
  • Stabilo Paint-It-All pencil (black)
  • Soft pastels


  • Danita will have a limited number of original art items on hand for those interested in purchasing her art.
