From Seoul to Bakersfield, with the cello, to UC Irvine and UCLA, then to Social Work and El Sol, and then to Publishing, and finally to CRESCENDOh.
Jenny was born in Seoul, Korea and in 1974, immigrated with her family to the US. She learned how to knit at the age of 6, her gateway craft, that eventually would lead to many other creative pursuits.
She grew up in Bakersfield, where she learned to play the cello.
In 1991, she graduated from UC Irvine with a degree in Political Science. She was selected as the first UC Student Regent from UC Irvine. From 2007–2009, she served as President of the UC Irvine Alumni Association. Jenny has been named 2010 Lauds & Laurels Distinguished Alumni for UC Irvine's School of Social Sciences.
In 1995, Jenny graduated from UCLA with a Masters in Social Welfare, under the guidance of academic advisor, Dr. Duncan Lindsey. For her research work with Dr. Lindsey, Jenny received the ProHumanitate Medal from the North American Resource Center for Child Welfare — the highest honor given to academics within public child welfare for bodies of research that advance the field. For seven years, Jenny worked for Orange County Social Services as Senior Social Worker in child protective services.
After social work, Jenny devoted two years to help with development efforts for El Sol Science & Arts Academy — a public charter school in Santa Ana, serving an underprivileged student body.
In 2004, Jenny joined Stampington & Company and quickly became Editor-in-Chief and Director of Publishing. During her tenure and leadership, the company experienced tremendous growth of numerous successful newsstand titles.
